Unlike diamonds, pearls are not forever. The saltwater pearl will last for about 150 years, while the freshwater one will live only about 70 years. This however, does not deters the pearl lovers from buying it. While you have a pearl bracelet in your jewelry box, you need to take special care of it so that it continues to glow the same way it charmed you.
Pearls do need special care. Here we discuss with you some of the important do’s and don’ts to take care of your pearl bracelet.
- Always remember that pearls are soft gems and cannot be exposed to too much heat or chemicals.
- Therefore it is advised to clean them with a dry or damp cloth or chamois.
- Do never use chemical cleaning products like detergents or acidic cleaners on the pearls. As pearl are made of calcium carbonate the acid can easily ruin them.
- Never use anything scratchy on your pearls bracelet. Avoid using toothbrushes, scouring pads or rough materials.
- Always store your pearl bracelet in a soft bag or pouch, and separate them from any jewelry you feel can scratch the soft pearls.
- Remember to take off your pearls if you are going for a bath or swimming
